Information Sheet/ APA Format/ 2 Pages/ Be Creative/NO PLAGARISM/ Rubric Attached

You have recently been promoted to Health Services Manager at Three Mountains Regional Hospital, a small hospital located in a mid-size city in the Midwest. Three Mountains is a general medical and surgical facility with 400 beds. Last year there were approximately 62,000 emergency visits and 15,000 admissions. More than 6,000 outpatient and 10,000 inpatient surgeries were performed.

On your first day in the position, the CEO requested that you design a short in-service training session for employees on the importance of professional ethics and liability protections.

You will need to develop an information sheet that explains the similarities and differences between laws and ethics, and the impact of unethical practices on healthcare. An information sheet provides brief and clear information on the required subject. Often, bullet points are utilized in an information sheet; however, since employees will be expected to know and understand the material thoroughly, your information sheet should be more detailed and offer supporting evidence, including a reference list.

a.  The information sheet should give your employees enough information to understand the differences and similarities between ethics and laws, the impact of unethical practices on healthcare, and the importance of professional ethics.

b.  Make sure to use audience-specific language and tone in your information sheet. Remember, you are writing this information sheet for your co-workers; however, the CEO and the Board of Directors may attend.

c.  Be creative, and make your information sheet fun, yet still clearly organized.

NOTE – APA formatting for the reference list, and proper grammar, punctuation, and form are required. APA help is available here.

Introduction

Having been promoted to Health Services Manager at Three Mountains Regional Hospital, as the CEO, it is paramount that employees understand the scope of ethics and liability protections. First and foremost, healthcare workers must fulfill both ethical and legal responsibilities when carrying out their day-to-day activities. Healthcare workers have a primary responsibility to protect patients. It is imperative that healthcare workers adhere to set standards to minimize risks. For example, when nurses ignore their codes of conduct patients are likely to suffer. Similarly, healthcare workers can be liable for unethical behaviors. Below is a thorough analysis of law and ethics in terms of similarities and differences.

The law gets described as the set of regulation generally created by the government. The essential features of the law are that it is universally accepted and enforced. The primary purpose of creating rules is to protect the public and their interests. The code gets made after considering ethical as well as moral values. Ethics acts as a guide for people when making important decisions. In other words, it comprises of critical concepts of an ideal human personality. Similarly, ethics inform us about how to handle or act in certain situations. In healthcare settings, practitioners are required to work within certain principles and rules of law to make better choices for themselves and others (Kangasniemi, Pakkanen, & Korhonen, 2015). Below are the significant differences between law and ethics:

 The proposal law comprises of set rules, while ethics is a collection of guidelines that inform people on how to behave. In health settings, nurses, for example, are expected to follow specific instructions when reporting medical issues to the patients or their families.

 Usually, the law is created by appropriate authorities in most cases the government. On the contrary, ethics get are governed by professional norms. This fact means that different professions have different codes of ethics.

 The law is quite explicit in the sense that it gets is documented in the constitution, statutes, and case law. Indifferently, However, ethics are codes of conduct not necessarily in writing that helps an individual to decide what is good or bad (Abbasi et al. 2018).

 The fundamental objective of the law is to protect the public, and maintain peace while ethics are codes of conduct that help individuals to make decisions in certain situations. Healthcare workers need to understand the difference between the terms to understand what is and what does not get is not required of them (Abbasi et al. 2018).

As aforementioned, the objective of the law is to maintain law and order in society. Bearing this in mind the law creates legal abiding aspects while ethics has no such binding authority on people. This factor explains why people find themselves in dilemmas since there is no clear definition of ethics. In other words, ethics are applied based on the nature of the situation at that given time. Commonalities between ethics and laws

 Laws got are developed from the moral values of a specific society. In general, laws describe the public behavior expected of individuals in the community. In a nutshell, codes represent the aspect of human actions, what we may refer to as ethical behaviors. The interconnection between laws and ethics create the main similarity. To some degree, it is almost no possibility impossible to address one independently. (Add Citation).

 Second, laws and ethics help maintain a set of moral values in society. In simple terms, they both provide guidelines on what to do in certain situations. It is right to say that both laws and ethics are systems that stand to benefit people from being members of a coexisting society. (Add Citation).

In summary, both laws and ethics are different particularly in guiding what a person must or should not do. The bill law is universal meaning that it is enforceable while the latter ethics are is a system depicting ideal human conduct. Even though both laws and ethics are similar in some aspect, they do not often contradict each other. However, they both relate in the sense that they 03 Comment by Rita Kane: Formatting. Not all laws are ethical (arguably), and not all unethical conduct is illegal.Ex) Slavery is unethical, but at one time was legal.Ex.) A doctor choosing not to render aid to an injured stranger is unethical but not illegal. Comment by Rita Kane: Correct this formatting and content.

How to act. Every employee needs to understand that no one is superior in the eyes of the law and ethics. The two should, therefore, help us think freely.

Jessica,

This is a good start. Your use of audience-specific language and discussion of the “similarities and differences” are great. You omitted the section regarding the “impact of unethical conduct on healthcare”. Also, there are many edits to formatting, grammar, spelling, and in-text citation. Lastly, your Referencing is incomplete. Please review all notes and feedback provided within your graded paper, and the side-notes, for more detail. I look forward to your re-submission.
